Kurzbeschreibung des Promotionsvorhabens:

The German housing stock needs substantial energetic retrofit to meet national and international carbon reduction targets. Various instruments are available to motivate building owners to improve the energy efficiency of their dwellings. They mainly focus on the rational issue of financing energy efficient refurbishments as the decision to refurbish is interpreted as an investment. The success rate is rather low since the refurbishment rate stagnated at 1% in the last years. Hence it is important to understand the decision making of building owners.

The aim of this study is to gain deeper insight into the decision making of owner-occupiers in the discourse of energy efficient refurbishments. Furthermore, a consistent simulation model is developed in order to reproduce the individual decision making and aggregate the results to the district level.

This modal includes not only simplistic cost-benefit considerations but takes into account comfort aspects and the social environment of building owners, which influence the choice for a specific refurbishment measure.
